If you step onto Jeremy William's property, you'll quickly see a "private property" sign and a warning of dogs on guard.
Those signs were ignored Monday night when burglars apparently broke in to his trailer.
The house was ransacked, and a laptop computer was stolen.
Williams was most concerned when he spotted blood throughout the house. Soon after, he found that the blood belong to his pit bull Toby.
"My dog had an arrow sticking out of the back of its neck," Williams said. "Then he had one that went through his jaw."
He believes that Toby was near the kitchen window when someone shot an arrow through the glass.
"I was pretty furious," Williams said. "I went around the park knocking on everyone's door to see if they saw anything."
Williams rushed the dog to an emergency veterinarian, but the office wanted money for the treatment up front. That's money that he didn't have, so he took the injured dog back home.
News of Toby's attack spread quickly, and Ruth Diller came to the rescue.
"I couldn't stand the thought of a dog that needed care not having it because of lack of funds," Diller said.
She wrote a blank check to the vet's office to cover Toby's medical expenses.
"I ain't ever had someone do something like that for me before," Williams said. "It really touched me."
The pit bull underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon. Williams says when the dog recovers, they're going to make a special visit to Diller's house.
She's not the only good Samaritan to come forward. Williams says he received many calls from people wanting to do something to help Toby. References |
