Officials in Hillsdale County seized more than a total of 16 malnourished horses late last week.
Today, two people face animal cruelty charges.
Ten of the animals were found at a Pittsford Township farm. Another six were seized from a farm in Jefferson Township. Authorities say the horses looked like they were starved to death.
Now, Glenn Edward Davis Jr., 44, and Penny Whitehouse, 50, face misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty causing death.
Crews from Michigan state police and the Hillsdale County sheriff's office loaded up the animals Friday afternoon. All 16 are now recovering at a local farm in Hillsdale.
Davis and Whitehouse are scheduled to be arraigned next Monday.
Case UpdatesTwo weekends ago in Hillsdale County, State Police found two dead horses and a third near death at locations in Pittsford and Jefferson Townships. Two people were arrested on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
Now, 50-year old Penny Whitehouse and 44-year old Glenn Edward Davis, Jr. have been booked again, this time on felony charges while four other people were also arrested Friday in connection with the case. The warrants against the six people accuse each of them of animal abandoning and cruelty to 10 or more animals.
Also taken into custody were 25-year old Amanda Belle Johnson, 18-year old Michelle Beverly, 47-year old Danny Joe Whitehouse and 18-year old Ariel David Johnson. All except Davis had an address listed as 3111 Huff Road. Davis lives on South Pittsford Road. In addition, Johnson faces two counts of cruelty resulting in an animal's death.
