Syracuse Police are investigating an incident in which a dog was thrown from a fourth-story window Friday morning.
Construction workers across the street saw the dog in the air after it was flung from an apartment on the 1800 block of East Fayette Street.
Police investigated the apartment, but it was empty.
The dog is being treated by a veterinarian for multiple fractures and wounds.
Police have not identified the person responsible.
Case UpdatesA dog thrown out of a 4th floor window on Friday had successful surgery on Wednesday at the DeWitt Animal Hospital.
The dog, which DeWitt Animal Hospital employees were calling "Peggy," was suffering from multiple fractures and wounds. The veterinarians were concerned that they would have to amputate her rear leg, but they were able to save it by inserting pins. They expect the leg to heal properly.
In order to receive the surgery, the hospital had to raise $3,000.
The DeWitt Animal Hospital said their phone lines were flooded Monday with callers offering to help pay for Peggy the dog's surgery. Police said the dog was thrown out of the 4th story window at a building along the 1800 block of East Fayette Street by a 20-year-old man, causing Peggy to suffer multiple fractures.
Stephanie Ingram, from the DeWitt Animal Hospital said, "As soon as it aired yesterday, we had donations flooding in. It was so overwhelming as far as the donations." The hospital said as of 8am, they had more than enough money to cover the surgery.
Dan Holdredge is one of the people who donated to help Peggy out. "My wife and I are both big animal lovers. We figured it was the least we could do to help this dog out," Holdredge said. "She didn't do anything to deserve this."
Peggy will undergo surgery Wednesday morning. It's going to cost about $3,000.
Hospital workers are grateful "I just wanna say a super thank you for everyone who donated and called immediately. It was just overwhelming and it's so nice that people really cared so much about her," Ingram said.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old for allegedly throwing a dog out of a 4th floor window of an apartment building on East Fayette Street Friday morning.
Construction workers across the street saw the dog in the air after it was flung from an apartment on the 1800 block of East Fayette Street.
Syracuse Police have arrested 20 year old Ricky Coleman. Police say he threw the dog out the window during an argument with his girlfriend.
Coleman is charged with aggravated animal cruelty and criminal trespass.
The dog, a one-year-old pit bull mix nicknamed "Peggy" by the DeWitt Animal Hospital, is being treated for multiple fractures and wounds. The dog will need surgery due to its extensive injuries.
Her right leg just has an IV line in it for fluid therapy; her left front leg is fractured and she has a splint on it. They think it will heal through splinting.
The veterinarian says her right rear leg is in the worst shape, with multiple fractures. The hospital says the surgery will cost approximately $3,000 and even then, they say her leg may still need to be amputated.
At this time, the dog's owner can not afford the surgery.
The hospital is trying to raise donations to get Peggy the leg surgery. If they don't get $3,000, they are trying for $1,500 to amputate her right rear leg.
People can make donations at the DeWitt Animal Hospital weekdays between 8am and 5pm. It's located at 5620 Thompson Road. You can also call ahead or give a donation over the phone via credit card. The hospital's phone number is 446-1200 | Source: 9WSYR - June 28, 2010 Update posted on Jul 8, 2010 - 1:15AM |
