Chesterfield County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a case of animal cruelty after they discovered several dead horses and a dead cow on a Cheraw man’s property.
Gerald W. Rhynes, 58, of 6191 U.S. 52 North is charged with seven counts of animal cruelty in connection with the case.
Neighbors called deputies June 2 and reported seeing a dead horse on a property on Rocky Hill Road in the Brock Mill area of Chesterfield County.
A deputy and officers with Chesterfield County Animal Control responded to the scene and found a dead cow and five dead horses out in a pasture, according to an incident report.
They also found eight horses still alive, but apparently starving, and noticed there was no hay or feed for them. The status and whereabouts of the surviving animals weren’t available from the sheriff’s office.
Rhynes was released Monday from the Chesterfield County jail on a $4,500 personal recognizance bond. References |
