East Longmeadow, MA (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Mar 11, 2010
County: Hampden

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Officials in East Longmeadow say that there is bittersweet news in the case of animal cruelty reported last week.

According to Animal Control officer Dawn Herbele, one of the pitbull puppies, Brutus, passed away Saturday night in his sleep.

However, his brother Lenny, who has been renamed Chance, has gone home with his new adoptive family and is doing well.

On Thursday, caller reported spotting two puppies abandoned in a watershed ditch off of North Main Street, according to Herbele. The puppies, 10-week-old blue nosed male pit bulls, were taken to the East Longmeadow Animal Hospital for treatment. There, doctors determined that both have Parvo and one of them had pneumonia.

Authorities are still looking for the person or persons who dumped these animals in that ditch. Anyone with information is asked to call East Longmeadow Police at (413) 525-5440.
