Dog severely beaten
Norfolk, MA (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Feb 16, 2010
County: Norfolk

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Ricardo Arbaca

The town has taken possession of a dog after its owner was charged with animal cruelty, allegedly for beating it.

Police received a 911 call about 9 a.m. Tuesday that a dog was being attacked and beaten in the area of Creek Drive and Seekonk Street, Police Chief Charles Stone Jr. said.

Norfolk Animal Control Officer/Special Police Officer Hilary Cohen responded to the call, along with police Sgt. David McConnell and Patrolman Stephen Plympton.

The dog, a 20-month-old boxer named Roxanne, and its handler, Ricardo Arbaca of Norfolk, were located, Stone said.

Cohen then went to Wrentham District Court to get a search/seizure warrant to bring the animal to safety and receive the necessary veterinary care.

The dog was removed the same day by police Sgt. Paul Murphy, Patrolman Thomas Degnim and Cohen, the chief said.

On Wednesday, Arbaca was charged with one count of animal cruelty by Cohen and the police department for the alleged beating, Stone said. As of Thursdday the dog remained in the custody of the town and is still at a veterinary hospital receiving care for her injuries.
