Hawkins County Sheriff Roger Christian told the Times-News Monday he has not yet taken action against a jailer, Nick Davis, who was cited into Greene County General Sessions Court accused of cruelty to animals related to horses he owns.

Davis appeared in Greene County Sessions Court on Jan. 20, and the trial was continued until July 19, 2010. Accusations included that horses belonging to Davis were neglected.

Christian said he learned about the charge the week that the jail and sheriff’s office were moved to the new Justice Center, and he hadn’t had time to investigate the allegation.

Christian said Davis will remain on duty pending an internal investigation.
