According to police, a call was received at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 for a report that a resident’s dog had been shot at 161 Governor’s Ave. in its own backyard.
Police responded, but the dog died as a result of the gunshot wound. Officers were able to determine likely locations the shot may have come from.
As a result of the actions of responding officers and the assistance of those working at the Medford Police Department’s dispatch center, investigators focused on a likely suspect. The suspect’s weapons and Massachusetts license to carry a weapon were removed.
The suspect has not been arrested. Police say while they are investigating, the suspect will likely be charged.
The animal was removed from the scene of the shooting by the MSPCA, which will be assisting police with the investigation by way of a forensics autopsy.

Police are investigating a fatal shooting last Thursday of a 3-month old boxer mix named Mika.
The dog's owner, Medford resident Melissa Rodrigues, was in the garage of her Governors Avenue home when shots were fired. She told television reporters that her father had let Mika out into the yard a few moments before the incident.
