A cat has survived after being tied down and shot 11 times. Willow's legs were shattered by the metal airgun pellets.
And one was lodged just an inch from his brain. The cat suffered a 10-day ordeal after being taken from his home in Gilmerton, Edinburgh to Penicuik seven miles away.
Vet Harry Haworth, operating yesterday, said: "It is one of the worst acts of cruelty I have ever seen. Usually a cat would sprint at the first shot, we believe he was held down.
"The X-ray is shocking. He must have been in agonising pain. We believe he was taken in a car -- there's no way he could have walked so far."
Willow's shocked owners fear his rear leg may have to be amputated if the tricky pinning operation does not work.
It was the first time the nine-month-old cat had ever left their garden, before being found at a roadside on Tuesday. References
