A Tukwila police dog that was stabbed Monday night by a suspected shoplifter who police later shot and wounded is going to survive, a Tukwila police spokesman said today.
"Gino is home and it appears he's going to make a full recovery," Tukwila police Officer Mike Murphy said.
But Murphy provided few new details today about the police-involved shooting connected to the dog's stabbing that left one man hospitalized.
Other than saying the Renton Police Department is now investigating the shooting, Murphy said he can't release further information because the case is now under review.
Late Monday, Murphy had said that a Tukwila officer shot the man about 8 p.m. during an altercation near the Tukwila Trading Co. supermarket. During a scuffle with police, the man allegedly stabbed the police dog.
Murphy says the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a nearby housing complex.
The man had been threatening officers who were trying to detain him for allegedly shoplifting from the store. Store employees, who initially tried to detain the man, called police for help.
Police have not provided details about the condition of the man, who was taken to Harborview Medical Center Monday night. References |
