Hoarding - dogs and birds seized Guntersville, AL (US)Incident Date: Friday, Jun 5, 2009 County: Marshall
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Kathleen Causey
A Guntersville woman is charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty after police confiscated a number of severely malnourished dogs and birds from her home.
Kathleen Causey, 68, lives on McCoy Street. She is not in jail, but has a court hearing next Wednesday.
Police say Causey's neighbors had reported a strong smell coming from her home. The animal control officer went to the home a few times to tell her to clean it up, after seeing what condition it was in. Police say she didn't, though, and the officer went back to take the animals.
Officers rescued eight dogs and six birds from Causey's home. All are suffering from dehydration and starvation. The dogs are in the care of the Guntersville Animal Hospital.
Veterinarians hope they can bring all the dogs back to good health, and plan to put the them up for adoption once they are in better shape.
Marshall County animal control officers took the birds to someone who can care for them. They will not be adopted out.
Police say Causey's son lived in the home with her, but he does not face charges. References |
