A man has been arrested in Okaloosa County for allegedly beating a pit bull to death with a meat cleaver.

Shawn Thayer, 51, claims his friend's dog attacked him, but authorities say the dog's owner told them a different story. Authorities say she claims she feared Thayer would attack her.

Investigators describe photos of the dog as "horrific."
