A $750 reward is being offered for information leading to the person who shot a dog with an air gun and left the animal to die in a frozen puddle.
Chilly, a 2-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix, was found just after Thanksgiving by a passer-by in Denver near South Quitman Street and West Mississippi Avenue.
She had been shot in the forehead and back of her neck, according to a news release from the Denver Dumb Friends League. Her injuries were severe, and Chilly, a name league staffers gave her, was unable to move her back legs.
The dog has undergone surgery to remove a pellet from her forehead, but the BB remains in her neck.
After a month with league staffers and foster-care volunteers, Chilly is running around and doing well, although she may have residual nerve damage from the abuse.
Chilly will remain in foster care until her recovery is complete. She'll then be put up for adoption.
Donors who would like to help with Chilly's care can contribute online at www.ddfl.org or mail a check to Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver 80231.
Anyone with information about the cruelty inflicted on Chilly is asked to call league investigators at 303-923-0022.
Aggravated cruelty to animals is a felony in Colorado, and a conviction could bring an 18-month jail sentence. If you have information on this case, please contact: 303-923-0022
