A Chickasha man got a grisly surprise when he inspected a collapsible pet carrier that had been dumped on his property on Thursday.
The zippered blue receptacle contained the body of a white adult pit bulldog with its throat slashed.
Billy Bitsche discovered the dog around noon on Wednesday while he was working near Country Club Road (CR1380) and Mockingbird Road.
"If people can't afford to have an animal, then don't get it," said Bitsche. "Don't put your problems off on somebody else."
Not unaccustomed to having dogs dumped on or near his property, Bitsche has had five dogs and a cat dumped at his place within the last month, including two Dobermans, a poodle, a red-nosed pit and a small brown dog.
Cynthia Armstrong with the Humane Society of the United States says this case may go even deeper. After seeing noticeable scars and wounds she says it may have been involved in dog fighting.
"It's scary that someone would be so brutal to an animal," said Cynthia Armstrong the Oklahoma State Director for the Humane Society of the United States. "This pitbull victim could be a loser in a dogfighting match, was killed, and dumped."
The humane society will offer a $2,500 reward for tips that will lead to a conviction in this case, and a $5,000 reward for helping put a dog fighter behind bars.
"There's not a lot that we have to work with right now, and that's what i would ask is that if anyone knows anything about what happened to the dog or how it wound up there to go ahead and give us a call," Chief Williams described.
"These brutal acts that are committed against dogs and cats. These folks are usually involved in other crimes, they're usually involved in some kind of domestic violence or child abuse," Armstrong concluded.
