A Sevier County man is to be arraigned today in Sevier County General Sessions Court in connection with the killing of six puppies.  Darrell Wayne Wilson, 44, is charged with a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.

Authorities allege Wilson "stomped to death" six puppies that belonged to his girlfriend after the couple got into an argument on May 31.

The Sevier County Humane Society - which recovered the remains of the 3-week-old puppies - called the case one of the worst intentional, aggravated animal-cruelty cases in its history.

According to Sevier County Deputy Sheriff Douglas Manning, Wilson said he killed the puppies one after another and "broke their necks right next to his trailer." He committed the act in front of his girlfriend, authorities allege.

When Manning arrived on the scene, witnesses told him that the mother dog had been carrying her dead pups around. He only saw two of the puppies.

Wilson, who fled the scene, was arrested later that day by sheriff's department personnel. He posted his $1,500 bond. Sheriff's Department booking officer Charles Henry said Wilson has no history of animal abuse.
