Lafayette Police officers arrested a man after he allegedly physically abused a horse.

Orlando James Batiste faces simple aggravated cruelty to animals and disturbing the peace charges after he was arrested and booked for the incident.

A witness called in the incident to police after witnessing the man hit the horse on the back, neck and in the face while it was tied up to a fence.

Cpl. Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police Department spokesman, said when officers responded and confronted the man, he became hostile.

Mouton said the horse was not longer tied to the fence, but officers allegedly found scratches on the horse where the witness said he was being hit.
