On Monday, Sept. 8, Upson County Animal Control responded to a call from the Upson County Sheriffs Office regarding possible neglected animals.

The Sheriffs deputies visited the residence to investigate outstanding warrants on two residents, but instead found a situation that they felt called for an immediate response from animal control.

"They called us yesterday afternoon and we went straight out there, said Animal Control Manager Smart Web. They said the dogs were in bad condition, So I knew I needed to get out there.

Web and officers arrived at a Barnesville Highway residence Monday and found several malnourished dogs in poor condition.

There were two pit bulls tied up with no food or water, said Web. One female, and one male. The female had six puppies with her.

On the porch of the house, Web says the officers found four mixed breed puppies in a cage with no food.

After approaching the home, Web says a female rottweiler exited the home.

Thirteen dogs total were living at the residence, five of which were badly emaciated, according to Web.

You could see all of the mixed puppies ribs, said Web, and the rottweiler was too bony to have been living in the house.

According to Web, the animals were in too bad a condition to leave them there. Animal Control apprehended the rottweiler, the four mixed puppies, and the two adult pits.

The six pit puppies were taken into the care of a relative of the owners.

The two women who claimed ownership of the dogs were taken into custody by the Sheriffs Office, and the case is waiting to go to court.

The rottweiler is available for immediate adoption because custody was relinquished to UCAC. For information on adopting this and other animals, call 706-647-5586.
