A man is facing an attempted animal cruelty charge in connection with an incident that occurred in July at a residence on Vermont 114.

Vermont State Police said they responded to the July 19 disturbance that began when a dog owned by Rebecca Strong of Barton bit Sally Cadorette, 31, of East Haven.

Police say Mark Loncar, 48, slashed at the dog with an axe, and a confrontation unfolded.

A review of the case by the Essex County State's Attorney has resulted in Loncar being cited into Vermont District Court on Oct. 22 to face a charge of attempted cruelty to animals.
