Mia R. Sterling has been booked into the Rapides Parish Jail on a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals after Alexandria Police allegedly found a puppy locked in the trunk of her vehicle.

Police were called to investigate by a group of people who reported first hearing what they thought was a dog barking before they entered a store to shop about 9:50 p.m. Friday and hearing it again when they returned two hours later.

According to the police report, Sterling was arrested after being called to the parking lot to open the trunk of the car and the dog was discovered. Besides the animal cruelty charge, Sterling also was booked with possession of marijuana.
