Severe neglect of 19 pit-bulls
Cleveland, OH (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Jan 18, 2003
County: Cuyahoga

Disposition: Alleged
Case Images: 1 files available

Alleged: Theopholis Hunter

19 pit bull dogs were removed from a 4 bedroom apartment and taken to the city shelter.  One of the dogs has been put to sleep because of serious injuries.  A judge will likely order the other dogs destroyed.

The dog named Miracle that was euthanized had his jaw hanging.  It was broken, skin hanging and the skin was dead.  The dog was malnourished and just bones.

Hunter stated the dog tore his mouth by biting on the steel cage.  The veterinarian doesn't agree, the diagnosis was a suspected dog fight.

The city's dog warden, John Baird, stated that pit bull popularity is growing.  Last year, the city kennel picked up 968 pit bulls.  The year before 722 and more than half of those were euthanized.
