Cockfighting - 8 birds seized
Manchester, CT (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Mar 3, 2008
County: Hartford

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Efrain Bracero

While making an arrest in connection with sale of heroin, police said they discovered a cockfighting ring.

On Monday, police arrested Efrain Bracero when he allegedly arrived to sell 116 grams of raw heroin in the parking lot of 360 Buckland Hill Drive in Manchester. Bracero was held on a $500,000 bond.

Following Bracero's arrest, the DEA and the East Central Narcotics Task Force served a search warrant on 86 Woodside St. in Manchester. Bracero was seen leaving the house just before his arrest.

Police said while serving the warrant they discovered a cockfighting ring with suspected blood splatters, eight live gamecocks, hypodermic needles, bird supplements, fighting spurs, a scale to weigh the birds and two slot machines.

The gamecocks were removed from the house and brought to Manchester animal control facility.

Policed also seized 4 ounces of suspected cocaine, 2 ounces of suspected marijuana, a scale, suspected drug balance sheets, drug paraphernalia and $4,730 in cash.

Felix Martinez and Carmen Gomez were arrested during the service of the search warrant. Video and photos were taken to document the cockfighting operation.
