more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Cat thrown into wall, shot, thrown in trash
Appleton, WI (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Sep 6, 2007
County: Outagamie

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Alec J. Fritz

Case Updates: 2 update(s) available

An 18-year-old Appleton man who allegedly threw his girlfriend's cat into a wall faces a misdemeanor charge that could land him in jail for up to nine months.

Alec J. Fritz, 232 W. Weiland Ave., is scheduled to make an initial appearance Tuesday in Outagamie County court on a charge of mistreatment of an animal.

The incident occurred at Fritz's residence on Sept. 6 when his girlfriend was visiting with her cat, according to the criminal complaint,

She said she heard a loud bang against the wall while she was in the bathroom. The cat was lying unconscious on the floor when she came out, she told investigators, and Fritz said, "I killed your cat."

She said Fritz told her he threw the cat against the wall because it had attacked his dogs "and he was tired of hearing her meow."

Another occupant of the residence shot the cat in the head with a BB gun in a botched attempt to "put it out of its misery."

The cat was then thrown into a trash bin.

When police arrived they found the cat still alive in the trash bin. The Fox Valley Humane Association euthanized it.

In addition to jail time, the misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine.

Case Updates

A 19-year-old Appleton man accused of brutalizing a woman's cat has been sentenced to one month in jail. Alec J. Fritz, 232 W. Weiland Ave., was sentenced Feb. 8 on one count of mistreatment of an animal as a result of the Sept. 6 incident at his residence.

Fritz smashed a cat's head against the wall because he thought the cat posed a threat to his dogs. The cat belonged to a female acquaintance.

Another occupant of the residence then shot the cat in the head with a BB gun to end its suffering. The two then threw the cat into a dumpster where it was later retrieved by police and found to be still alive.

It was later euthanized by the Fox Valley Humane Association.

Outagamie County Circuit Judge Mark McGinnis placed Fritz on one year of probation and ordered that he perform 100 hours of community service in addition to the jail time.

Also, as a condition of probation, McGinnis ordered Fritz not to have any contact with animals.

Authorities call it a horrific case of animal abuse. Friday, the man responsible learned he will pay for his actions by going to jail. Alec Fritz entered a plea of 'no contest' in a Fox Valley courtroom to throwing his girlfriend's cat against a wall. He also shot the cat and threw the animal into a garbage can to die.
