Fourteen dead animals were found on a Ross High School softball field by an assistant coach.

The bodies of skunks, raccoons, rabbits, cats and a ground hog were placed in positions that players would take on the field, school athletic director Art Bucci said.

The gates to the school's fields were locked when the coach made the discovery Friday, and police found no signs of forced entry.

The team found its cars covered in toilet paper and shaving cream upon returning from a game at Lima on Thursday night, police reports show. Bucci believes it was a prank by other students.

Fremont is about 30 miles southeast of Toledo.

Case Updates

School officials are allegedly closer to finding the culprits. Principal Joe Johnson says that they believe they are Fremont Ross students. Johnson said Athletic Director Art Bucci -- who spent his afternoon April 18 helping to dispose of the animals with pitch forks -- is conducting an investigation into the matter. Bucci reported finding the animals to the Fremont Police Department. Johnson said Bucci will likely give him the details of his investigation Monday, and they'll "proceed from there, as far as the student handbook is concerned."
