Norman police have taken 23 cats and nine dogs from a home in west Norman and say the home has been declared uninhabitable.

Captain Leonard Judy says the home is contaminated with animal waste and the dogs and cats were taken to the Norman Animal Welfare Center. He says some of the animals are showing signs of malnutrition and neglect.

Police say the home's owner claims to be running an animal rescue operation.

The owner has not been charged and no names have been released but police say they will send a report to the district attorney to decide whether charges will be filed.
