A Michigan City man was confronted by police Wednesday after allegedly beating his pet pit bulls.

According to a Michigan City Police report, the 20-year-old man allegedly punched his pit bull repeatedly with a closed fist after the dog escaped from his backyard in the 300 block of Cloud Street just after 10 a.m.

A witness told police that the man grabbed the dog by the back of the neck and pulled it into his vehicle, where the alleged abuse occurred, at the intersection of Barker and Cleveland avenues.

The witness then told police the man pulled a second pit bull into his vehicle before turning north onto Cloud Street.

The second dog did not at first come to the man when called. The witness said he told the man that he would not come either if he were the dog. Robinson reportedly told the man to mind his own business or he would batter him.

When police questioned the man, he denied making the threat and hitting the animals with a closed fist, according to the police report.

Police described the dogs as looking healthy and not visibly injured, although the mans neighbor told police she has seen him kick the animals.
