Two Lexington families are asking why someone would want to poison their pet dogs.
Travis Hatfiled tells Action News 36, he came home to his Hidden Springs Drive residence last Sunday evening and noticed a person in his backyard. Hatfield says the person ran away, and he didn't think much of it until the next day when his dog became violently ill.
When the Hatfield's took their English Setter "Spot" to the vet, they discovered their dog was poisoned from either an opiate or cyanide. The Hatfield's had to put their dog to sleep.
The next day, their next door neighbor's two dachshunds started to get ill. Kerry Michaels who lives on the same street, told Action News 36 when he took his dogs to the hospital, he was told they were suffering from antifreeze poisoning. $4,000 later, his dogs, Oscar and Ginger survived.
Both families have filed police reports with the Lexington Police Department, and Michaels is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
