A Wayne Township man, charged in June with keeping more than 100 sick and dead cats on his property, faces new charges of animal cruelty after authorities found 20 cats in cages in a barn.

The charges come two months after a judge dismissed two other charges of animal cruelty against Forrest Miller, who identified himself to authorities as K. Forrester, 71, of the 3600 block of Graham Road.

Acting on a tip, county animal-control officers recently went to the barn on Taylor Pike and found the cats. Five were in poor health, and all were being kept in cages, said Dean Humphrey, chief county animal control officer.

''They discovered the barn was owned by one person, and (Mr. Miller) was given permission to use the barn for storage,'' Mr. Humphrey said.

The charges include reinstatement of the two dismissed charges and eight new animal cruelty charges, he said. The animals are being held at the county animal shelter, Mr. Humphrey said.

The county prosecutor's office agreed to drop the earlier charges, in part because Mr. Miller agreed to two unannounced visits to his home by animal-control officers, and was restricted to owning two animals.
