Mike Meehan faces a court hearing on misdemeanor charges that he broke his beagle's leg and let it go without treatment for days because he didn't have money to pay a veterinarian."I worked 12 hours straight and then came home and the dog pooped in my car. I got mad and hit him. Anybody would have," Meehan said.But the 47-year-old car salesman said when he returned from work July 10, his beagle, Patches, already had an injured rear leg.
His next court date is scheduled for June 5th, 2003, his case has been postponed several times since 9-19-02
Case UpdatesOn June 5, 03 Meehan agreed to be "found" guilty of Cruelty to Animals and Violation of Owner's Duties in the case of Patches the Beagle. Meehan was sentenced to 2 years of court supervision, restitution to Belleville Area Humane Society of $2140.61 and relinquishment of Patches to BAHS for immediate placement into a new safe home.

A Belleville couple wants to adopt Patches, but delays in the prosecution of its owner have kept the little dog in limbo.
