Animal control officers were called to 3108 1/2 Hale Ave. at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night to reports of dogs there that were malnourished.

There was a boxer there that couldnt walk. It couldnt stand up, said Regenia Wells, the director of the Tifton/Tift County Animal Shelter.

Wells said the dogs had no food or water, except for watermelon rinds lying near them. In all, nine dogs were taken to the shelter. Wells said the dogs had to be euthanized because they couldnt have made it.

It was the worse case Ive ever seen, she said.

Lover Bobby Burks, 66, 3108 1/2 Hale Ave., was charged with nine counts of cruelty to animals.

Wells said a local ordinance prevents anyone who is not licensed to breed dogs from owning more than six dogs or having more than four of the same breed of dog.
