According to Regenia Wells, the director of the Tifton/Tift County Animal Shelter, Tifton police officers reported early Wednesday that seven injured dogs were tied up with no water and food at 113 Alder St. Floyd Stephens Jr., 35, of that address, was in jail on charges related to the robbery when he was charged in the animal case with six counts of cruelty to animals.

Wells said seven dogs, including some bulldog mixes and chihuahuas, were tied up with no food, water or shelter.

The worse case was one of the chihuahuas that was on a chain, Wells said. The chain had embedded in the dogs neck.

The injured dog is being treated at the shelter with veterinarian-prescribed antibiotics, Wells said.
