Incident Date: Wednesday, Nov 1, 2006
County: Genesee

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:
» Greg L. Cherny
» Tessa Cherny

» Isaac L. Crawford

A Flint Township couple and two other local men were named in felony warrants on June 19, 2007 charging them with attending or conducting dog fighting in the fall.

The warrants, sworn out today by Detective Russ Fries of the township police, cite Greg L. Cherny, 33; his wife Tessa, 32; Mark Whittingham, 39, of Flint Township; and Isaac L. Crawford, 27, of Flint, with being at a dog fight in the Cherny's home on Nov. 1.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Greg Cherny is charged with dog fighting, attending a dog fight and possession of dog fighting equipment. His wife and Whittingham are charged with dog fighting and attending dog fighting. And Crawford is charged with attending dog fighting. All of the charges are four-year felonies.

One severely injured pit bull found at the home, located on Lenrose Avenue near Linden Road, had to be euthanized, Fries said.

Three other dogs were seized by Genesee County Animal Control at the request of township police, and those dogs are being held as evidence, Leyton said.

Fries said the suspects have not yet been arrested, but he expected they would be picked up and brought to Genesee County's Central District Court for arraignment within the next two days.
