Oshkosh police arrested a 61-year-old man who is suspected of shooting and killing a cat on May 10 afternoon.

Authorities were told around 5:20 p.m. that someone had shot a cat in the 100 block of Prospect Avenue.

A police spokesman said officers investigated and arrested the man for felony maltreatment of an animal. The man was transported to the Winnebago County Jail.

Police said the cat was shot with a .22 caliber firearm. The owner of the cat is not known.
