Dozens of animal carcasses were found in and around a home in Jackson, Ohio and several of them are barely alive.

There were 75 surviving animals found - more than 60 others weren't so lucky.

Police were called to the scene after a pig wandered into a neighbor's yard trying to eat chickens, which led police to a home where they found caged animals, dead and alive.

Police said three people lived on the farm, two females and a male. Police said they left the animals alone after a domestic dispute.

When emergency workers first got to the scene, they say it looked like something out of a Stephen King novel, an animal death camp. They said the search still isn't over and they fear there may be more animals dead in the field.

Police said the three people who lived on the farm face well over 100 charges of animal cruelty and neglect.

Each count carries a $500 fine and/or jail time.

Case Updates

A 10-foot python and Madagascar hissing cockroaches were among about 25 animals found barely alive in an abandoned farmhouse in southern Ohio where authorities also discovered more than 40 dead animals.

"It was really bad," Chief Deputy Jim Ephlin of the Jackson County sheriff's office said Thursday. "There was spoiled food all over the place along with the carcasses."

Many of the animals found alive were not expected to survive, authorities said.

The starving and dead animals were found Wednesday when a hog apparently escaped from the house about seven miles south of Jackson. Police were called by a woman who saw it running loose in the road.

Ephlin said the animals apparently had been abandoned, and one of two women who lived at the house was taken into custody Thursday at another location. No charges had been filed, and the names of the women had not been released.

Ephlin said the woman caught Thursday had more snakes and other animals with her.

Authorities found animal bones at the farmhouse that couldn't be immediately identified.

Among the dead animals were dogs, ducks, snakes, rabbits, goats and chickens. Other surviving animals included rabbits, cats, dogs, turkeys, goats, turtles, iguanas, the hog, a white mouse and fish.

Jackson is about 70 miles south of Columbus.
