The Cruelty Investigation department of the Humane Society of Greater Rochester has charged a Henrietta man with one count of cruelty to animals.

On April 26, the Humane Society responded at the request of the Monroe County Sheriffs Office. An emaciated black Labrador named Blackjack was removed from the basement of Darwin Ford, 42, of 24 Tulane Parkway, Henrietta. The dog was turned over to the Humane Society of Greater Rochester and taken to Lollypop Farm for treatment. Despite the efforts of the veterinary staff at Lollypop Farm the dog died because of its condition.

After completion of the investigation, Ford was arrested by Humane Society investigators on May 17 and charged with animal cruelty. Ford is scheduled to appear in Henrietta Town court at 5 p.m. on Tuesday June 12. The misdemeanor charge can lead to a possible sentence of one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
