Authorities broke up a cockfight Sunday afternoon in a rural neighborhood, arresting four adults and one juvenile, sheriff's deputies said.

Animal Control officers confiscated 35 roosters, which were later euthanized, said sheriff's Lt. William Donahue.

The cockfight was taking place inside a house on Vista Ramona Road, near the junction with Sageland Drive, when officers arrived shortly after 4:30 p.m.

"When deputies arrived, a whole bunch of people fled from the house," said Donahue.

The owners of the home where the cockfight was being staged were among those arrested, he said.
