Thomas Dean Boisvert took his dog to March 24's Chasco Fiesta parade, but he left without it after being arrested and accused of animal cruelty.

At about 12:45 p.m., parade watchers reported that Boisvert, 46, of 10249 Emerson Drive, New Port Richey, was pulling the dog along by its leash despite the animal having an injured back leg, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

When a deputy approached Boisvert about his injured dog, she reported he appeared intoxicated. The deputy suggested Boisvert pick up the dog and take it for medical attention.

As he walked away, Boisvert threw the dog to the ground and kicked it several times, according to the deputy's report.

Boisvert failed to stop when the deputy told him to do so, the report states. He was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and failure to obey a law enforcement officer.

Boisvert remained at the Land O' Lakes Jail on $5,150 bail on Sunday.

The dog was taken into custody by Pasco Animal Control officials, sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said.
