An orange dog collar led to the arrest of two Caneyville men after two family pets were found dead by their owners.

Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons reported two men, Carl Jamison, 19, 374 Ridge Road, and Mickel Decker, 24, of Old Hartford Road, have been arrested in connection with the case and charged with theft, animal cruelty and receiving stolen property over $300.

Fritz, the family boxer, disappeared on February 18 from his home on Post Tousey Road, owners Leo and Billie Clemons told deputies.

After posting signs and spending two weeks looking for the dog the Clemons' found their pet, along with three other dog carcasses.

The animals were found discarded on Old Hartford Road, about eight miles from the Clemons home in Caneyville.

Billie Clemons was distraught over the disappearance of her friend.

He was my best friend and these boys do not realize what they have taken from my family. He had a unique personally.

Clemons she got a phone call from an unidentified woman telling her where to find her dog. After going to the location, she found Fritz where the woman said he would be.

The dog was there, she said Tuesday, but the collar was missing. Along with his own dog Clemons found three more decaying dogs.

When I saw the dog and noticed the collar was missing, I knew that if I could find the collar, I would find the person who killed my dog, Leo said.

It was Bob Etherington, 2797 Old Hartford Road, Caneyville, who helped Clemons locate the collar. Etherington, who owns the property near where Fritz's body was found, also recalled Tuesday the disappearance of his family dog on October 24.

He was gone for about four days when I found his body, Etherington said.

Etherington also talked about the gentleness of his dog: This dog belonged to my 91-year-old mother. They would go walking together.

Etherington said he found his dog about 50 yards from his home. He said his dog was killed in the same way Fritz had died.

When I found my dog. I thought he was shot with a high powered rifle but after looking closer, I saw it was an arrow that killed him. I found the arrow not far from the dog.

I knew who had killed my dog, he continued, but I couldn't prove it.

Then Mickel Decker, who had been staying at the farm next door, came over and asked me for his arrow back. said Etherington.

I went to the county attorney to file charges, but nothing was done until Leo's dog was killed, too.

Clemons said he had gone to the farm next to Etherington's and asked if he could look in the barn located on the property to see if Fritz had been in there. After being given permission, Clemons found the orange collar on a hound that was tied up inside the barn.

After the collar was located, the sheriff's department was called.

According to Sheriff Rick Clemons, the call came to me about the dog and I located the suspect, Carl Jamison. When I asked him, he admitted to killing the dog because he said it was on his front porch growling at him.

We arrested one suspect, Mickel Decker, because of some other outstanding warrants, and I advised Leo to see the county attorney because Jamison admitted to killing the dog.

Warrants were issued for Decker and Jamison and both were charged with Animal cruelty and receiving stolen property.

As of press time Tuesday, Jamison is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center and Decker was released on a $2,500 bond.

What I worry about, said Leo Clemons, is if these boys are killing animals like this today, will they be killing people next?

Carl Jamison appeared in court on charges of animal cruelty and theft on April 3rd. His case has been referred to the grand jury for possible felony indictment. A court date has not been set. Co-defendant Michael Decker is scheduled for trial on July 20 to face misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and receiving stolen property.

The charges stem from their alleged involvement in the shooting deaths of four dogs in the area. Leo Clemmons reported that his Boxer, Fritz was stolen on February 18, 2007. The Clemmons family reportedly received a call from an unidentified woman telling them where to find the missing dog. After going to the location, they found their dog dead, with its collar missing.

Along with his own dog, Clemmons found three more decaying dogs near the house where Carl Jamison and Michael Decker live.

Bob Edrington, who owns the property near where Fritz's body was found, had reported the disappearance of his familys dog on October 24, 2006. Edrington said he found his dog about 50 yards from his home. The dog appeared to have been killed in the same way that Fritz had.

When I found my dog, I thought he was shot with a high powered rifle, but after looking closer, I saw it was an arrow that killed him. I found the arrow not far from the dog.

Then Michael Decker, who had been staying at the farm next door, came over and asked me for his arrow back. said Edrington.

I went to the county attorney to file charges, but nothing was done until Leo's dog was killed, too.

According to reports, Leo Clemmons went to the farm and asked if he could look in the barn to see if Fritz had been in there. Clemmons reportedly found his dogs missing collar on a hound tied up inside the barn.
