A Greenville County couple faces criminal charges and their home has been condemned because of "horrific" conditions that more than 30 animals were found in.

The 37 animals were removed from the property on Roper Mountain Road. Most of the animals are dogs, ranging from 2-week-old puppies to full grown dogs. Two birds were also found at the home.

Animal control officers said that the dogs had no food, matted fur and were generally neglected. Officers found 15 of the dogs outside the home and the rest inside.

"The conditions inside the home were so horrific that the codes department was called in and the house has been condemned," Greenville Humane Society spokeswoman Judy Outlaw said.

The owners have been charged with cruelty to animals.

All of the animals have been taken to the Greenville Humane Society, but the group has not said if any of the animals will be able to be adopted.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
