An 11-year-old says his dog was shot right in front of him by a neighbor, but not just any neighbor, a probation and parole officer with the state of Alabama.

It happened Nov 13 onKelly Street in Scottsboro, which is just off Highway 79 near Camp Maranatha.

The dog will be fine, but the boy's mother is outraged.

She says her son was just yards away when the dog was shot.

Austin Pinegar thought he'd lost his 4-legged buddy Binkie forever.

"I just love her with all my heart," said Austin.

The boxer mix escaped from the house in Scottsboro on Nov 13 and ran to a neighbor's yard.

With leash in tow, Austin went after her, just as the neighbor allegedly pulled out a shot gun loaded with bird shot.

"I almost cried. I was scared, when he shot, I was scared myself. And I was scared for Binkie because she was squealing and running home. And I was just afraid that she was going to die that night. And I'm just glad she's alive," said Austin.

Austin says he was only about 15-feet from Binkie when she was shot, which infuriated Austin's mother, Gina Dudley.

"There was blood everywhere. There was blood all over my oldest son where the dog had been shot and he was carrying her. And the kids were crying and they were terrified when I got home," said Dudley.

While Binkie looks fine on the outside, the x-rays tell a different story.

Binkie is full of pellets, 50 of them from head to tail.

Scottsboro Police charged the neighbor, James Williamson, on Nov 15 with reckless endangerment and cruelty to animals.

Austin's mother says he should have known better, especially since he's a state probation and parole officer.

"He knows how to use firearms. He knows what he's doing. And I cannot imagine what he was thinking just to walk out and do that," said Dudley.

Williamson turned himself into Scottsboro Police around 3:00p.m. on Nov 15.

He's free on a $1,000 bond.
