more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Hoarding - 200 cats in condo East Meadow, NY (US)Incident Date: Tuesday, Aug 31, 1993 County: Nassau
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Frances Palermo
Frances Palermo, 62, found herself back in the First District Court, Hempstead for violating probation in her case of about 200 cats found in her three-bedroom condo at East Meadow.
Palermo was sentenced to three years' probation in September for cruelty to animals. She was given sixty (60) days to get rid of all but three cats.
Palermo said, "I made an effort and took a lot of them out." She gave away 25 cats, and another four went to her ex-husband's place in East Meadow. Those four died from smoke from a basement fire. She still has about 175 cats or maybe more. Palermo said, "You know how they hide - and they do have kittens."
Palermo's attorney wasn't present, so the case has been postponed until March 24.
Palermo is now being evicted from her condominium. She was using her unemployment money to feed the cats. The bank has foreclosed on the condo. The building's board and the bank have been suing to get her out of the building.
She spent all night in the jail on the probation violation. Palermo has problems with high blood pressure. Her ex-husband is having heart problems, she hopes to reconcile with her ex-husband.
Palermo said, "I wasn't cruel to the animals." She said she has been taking in stray cats since 1985. "I don't know why they are doing this to me. They're my family. I love them." References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Nassau County, NY
