An Ottawa man will appear in court in August charged with animal cruelty. The Ottawa Humane Society laid the charges after finding a litter of feces covered puppies in a basement.
Investigators visited a home in the southeast end of Ottawa on June 5th after receiving a tip from a concerned member of the public.
The Humane Society says nine puppies were stuffed into a cage.
Steve Gagnon has been charged with causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal and failing to provide adequate care.
Case UpdatesGagnon's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 15, 2006, but Roney said there's little chance the man will receive the maximum $2,000 fine or six months in jail for his alleged abuse of the dogs.
"Judges don't tend to take this kind of Criminal Code violation seriously, unfortunately," said Roney, adding "it's quite upsetting for anyone who's an animal lover." | Source: Ottawa Sun - June 21, 2006 Update posted on Jul 1, 2006 - 4:50AM |
