On May 17, 2006, Athens Animal Control picked up a St. Bernard in extremely bad condition. Animal Control said that due to the apparent open sores covering her body, that they would either have to put her to sleep or a rescue group would have to take her. They didn't want her to be in pain for her five days there. Pawtropolis, a local rescue organization, stepped up to the plate and decided to take Molly to their facility. Thanks to the fund from the Athenspets web site, the great officers at animal control took her to the vet. The found that she only had demodex mange (non-contagious) and she was heartworm negative, but covered head to toe in open sores. Her face was bloody and so swollen she could barely see.

Her owners have 5 days to try to reclaim her. If they do they will be faced with animal neglect charges. The animal control officers have stated how sweet she is. She does a little tail wag when she sees you and has been nothing but kind to the people that have been treating her. It's not a guarantee that she will get better, but she does have some hope. She is eating and drinking extremely well and enjoying walks outside. The Petropolis staff have dubbed her 'Molly' and she will be in the rescue's care until she has recovered a bit more.

On May 27, 2006, Molly was taken to the vet for a checkup. She had gained 5lbs and now weights in at 95.3 lbs. The vet was amazed to see how much she had improved in such a short time. Molly's spirits are high, and she knows how to sit and shake. The rescue has raised enough money to get her treated with the oral medication rather than just the baths, which will speed her healing process. She is now up to date on all vaccines as well. Natural Balance Pet Foods is going to donate the food it will take to make her healthy. Shoal Creek Animal Hospital is giving the rescue substantial discounts to help out with Molly's financial cost. Molly was then taken to see the caretakers at animal control, and both Molly, and the officers, exchanged greetings. Molly showed them how she has learned to sit and then offered each officer a hand/paw shake.
