A 52-year-old Arrochar man turning himself into cops yesterday to face animal cruelty charges had domestic violence charges tacked on to his troubles -- for allegedly attacking his live-in partner, authorities said. Salvatore Isolda, owner of South & North Plumbing & Contracting in Arrochar, turned himself in at 8:30 a.m. at the Mid-Island's 122nd Police Precinct stationhouse in New Dorp, to face a charge of cruelty to animals.
But the Major Avenue resident was then arrested for single counts of third-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault and second-degree assault, according to Special Agent Joseph Pentangelo of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). All charges are misdemeanors. The arresting officer was ASPCA Special Agent Paul Romano.
Court documents allege that on May 19 at 11 p.m., the suspect attacked his girlfriend's dog, kicking him and causing the dog to urinate blood. Spike, a 3-year-old Jack Russell terrier, was taken to Veterinary Emergency Center, Sunnyside, and is still receiving medical care, those documents state.
In the domestic dispute case, documents state, on May 25 at 10 p.m., Isolda grabbed his girl friend's neck and threw her into a wall, causing injuries that included bruising and swelling of the neck and hip. Pentangelo said the girl friend, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
