Des Moines police are still trying to rule out an accident but animal control officers say that's highly unlikely. Steve Weber says they go through the same routine every morning, attaching Molly to a dog run. What happened on March 6, 2006 was anything but routine. The Weber's 10-year old son, Kevin heard Molly crying shortly before six o'clock. Kevin and a babysitter tried to cut Molly loose, but they were too late. After a closer look, Steve realized Molly's collar had been disconnected from her leash and attached to the top of the run line.
Animal control officers agree. Tom Colvin, Director of the Animal Rescue League says cases like this highlight the need for tougher penalties for people who torture animals. A $500 reward is being offered for information about Molly's death. You can call the Webers at 440-0728 or at 250-9600.

Case UpdatesAn animal shelter fund set up for a dog that was found hanged in the owner's back yard continues to grow.
The Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary announced Friday that it has set up Molly's Fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Adel.
The fund has received many reward donations from people who are outraged about the death of Molly Weber, a 1½-year-old golden retriever found hanging in her Des Moines' yard, according to a news release.
The dog's owners initially offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Molly's death.
The reward total is now $2,000.
All funds collected will apply directly to the reward in this case, but if the reward is not collected, the funds may be returned to the donor or, with the donor's permission, maintained for future animal abuse incidents, the release said.
Those who wish to donate are requested to make their checks payable to:
