Farmer arrested in deaths of 5 cattle
Johnstown, NY (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jan 31, 2001
County: Fulton

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Gary Dianne Weaver

Gary Weaver, 58, a farmer was arrested on a charge of failure to provide proper sustenance for five beefalo cattle found dead on his property.

There were eight buffalo found dead on Weaver's farm in January. At this time the authorities gave him some advice on preserving the remainder of his herd but when five died in recent weeks they could no longer excuse his negligence.

The beefalo is a cross between American buffalo and a beef cow. They are bred for their lean meat.

If found guilty, Weaver could spend a year in jail and a fine up to $1,000.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges.
