Two Staffordshire bull terriers were taken to Wood Green Animal Shelter malnourished and emaciated. Manager Harry Eckman says one of the neglected dogs was in such a state when it arrived at Wood Green Animal Shelter that it had to be put on a drip. Mr Eckman said: "We don't know who the owner is, as they were brought to us from someone who had taken them in.

"One of them in particular is in a terrible state and we are just bringing them back to health slowly." A search is now on for the dogs' owner and possibly legal action may be taken.

Peter Rawlings, Haringey's animal warden, had received a call about the poorly dogs, who were removed from a house in Tottenham. He said: "The person who called me was concerned about the dogs, but he wasn't the owner. "The dogs were being kept in a built-in wardrobe, which had had its doors removed. It was like a little cubby hole. "We are trying to trace the owners at the moment."
