Alice Vargo, 17, of 2187 Coddington Road, Caroline, was charged on Nov 6 with three counts of failing to provide proper sustenance which is a misdemeanor. If convicted, each offense carries a maximum penalty of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine.
On Oct 29, acting on a neighbor's complaint, SPCA officers obtained search warrants from the Town of Caroline and seized three animals from the residence. When the officers entered the home, they found a male cat emaciated and dead on the downstairs floor.
SPCA officers also found a male collie dog and a male Himalayan cat found in the house without food or water and in unsanitary conditions. The animals were rushed to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals for diagnosis and treatment.
"Both the cat and dog are in stable condition now. They are both responding fine and are receiving regular food and care. The collie is in need of costly medical treatment, though. We are accepting donations for it." Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
