A Steele County woman has gained a reprieve regarding dozens of animals she keeps in and around her home. Located on Highway 218 in the Bixby community-about halfway between Blooming Prairie and Owatonna, the residence Kim Robinson shares with a variety of scaly, furry and feathered friends can accurately be called a menagerie.

The number is in question, ranging from sixty-something to 95, but Robinson manages to provide a home for dozens of dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks, a ferret, a snake and herself.

Despite a slight setback last month, she's determined to keep it that way.

Robinson says "90-percent" of the animals in her home are personal pets with the rest categorized as animals she's rescued from abandonment and other misfortune.

Last month, the Steele County Humane Society and a state animal welfare representative examined her home and removed ten dogs they determined to be in need of treatment.

Robinson was given until February ninth to get her house in order or give up all the animals.

However, various agencies have decided to forego drastic action in favor of a continuing effort to bring Robinson up to speed on necessary animal husbandry techniques and procedures.

Agencies involved in that effort include the Steele County Humane Society, Steele County's Sheriff Department and an officer who does state investigations on animal cruelty and neglect.
