Incident Date: Thursday, Jan 19, 2006
County: Cook

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:

Two Rolling Meadows teenagers were charged with cruelty to animals after allegedly trying to shoot a wild opossum with a crossbow and a weapon that resembled a dart gun, according to police.

Matthew J. Krupela, 17, of the 3200 block of Peacock Lane and Brandon M. Perez, 18, of the 4600 block of Sycamore Lane were arrested Jan 19 after a police officer saw them leave a truck and chase the animal, authorities said.

They apparently spotted the opossum while driving along Tollview Drive and followed it into a parking lot in the 5200 block of Tollview, said Sgt. Tony Gaspari of the Rolling Meadows Police Department. The animal got away.

Krupela, who was armed with the crossbow, also was cited for discharging a weapon and unlawful possession of cannabis, authorities said.
