On January 17, 2006, an animal-welfare organization served a search warrant in North Hollywood and found more than 20 sick cats and one dead cat inside a "small, one-bedroom apartment," the group reported. Humane officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Los Angeles removed the animals, said Dawn Cotterell, of SPCALA. The address of the apartment was not released. "The cats will be examined and treated by SPCALA's veterinary staff," Cotterell said.

An anonymous tip led officers to the residence, Cotterell said. An investigation was being conducted to determine if the animals' owner will face charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
